Introduction

There has been a long history of business and commerce in and around the village, dating back to the brickworks and iron foundry during Victorian times. Please refer to Businesses of the Past for more information.

Builder

Robert John Winnicott began his business in Portsmouth in 1904 at the age of 21, soon expanding, buying land and building houses in Portsmouth and surrounding areas. After the war the business concentrated on building contracting for Government departments, commercial, industrial and private clients. The business opened a small branch at their property in Rowlands Castle in the 1960’s, moving the complete business to Rowlands Castle in 1975. R.J. Winnicott Limited remains a family business, now run by the fourth generation.

The business offers a comprehensive service of construction works, ranging from larger domestic extensions, refurbishments, commercial, industrial, civil engineering, new buildings and repair, to restoration of Churches, Listed and Historic Buildings. The business has long standing associations with many architects, engineers, surveyors and clients, including relationships over several decades with Winchester College, refurbishing their listed boarding houses and buildings, and SSE, working on the electricity distribution network. Garage Services

Hall’s Garage

Hall’s Garage, located on The Green has been a constant presence in Rowlands Castle for over 70 years. During that time, the business has grown and adapted but still remains a friendly, family run enterprise.

The workshop has doubled in size and has been equipped with highly technical equipment now required for modern-day cars. The skills of the engineers have also had to grow to keep up with the technological advancements in the motor industry over the last few decades, but the personal customer service has always remained. The Halls family are proud of their ongoing investment in staff training and equipment updating, which ensures that they always provide the best of facilities for your vehicle and always use quality, fully guaranteed parts.

As you will see from the photos above, the petrol pumps are no longer there but the garage has continued to offer all Motor Vehicle services its customers may need. These are servicing, MOTs, repairs, air conditioning service and repair, diagnostics and tyres. Hall’s Garage specialises in, but are not limited to, German vehicles, and they also offer motorbike MOTs, repairs and vehicle diagnostics. Website: Hall’s Garage
